Donald Trump teed off at the LIV GolfProAm Tournament at Trump National in Virginia on Thursday as he gears up for the 2024 presidental election. He was wearing his infamous red “MAGA” hat while participating in the event.
Trump, 76, showed off his skills on the course during LIV Golf DC and did not hold back when discussing the new controversial league.
“I think the (PGA) Tour made a major mistake by playing games,” Trump said. “They have unlimited money, and they love it. And it’s been great publicity for Saudi Arabia.”
The United States Department of Justice reportedly ramped up its investigation into how Trump handled classified documents while he was POTUS.
As part of the investigation, the DOJ subpoenaed the Trump Organization for records regarding his ties to Saudi-backed LIV Golf, according to the New York Times.
Donald Trump bad for LIV Golf?
While many praised Trump’s appearance at LIV Golf DC, others questioned if his involvement will hurt the already-damaged image of the startup leadgue.
Critics believe Americans will be turned off by the idea of Trump being a part of LIV Golf, but others argue that golf fans have already made their mind up one way or the other, so his participation is irrelevant.
The tournament continues for day two on Saturday with Harold Varner III on top of the leader board.
Brooks Koepka, who is coming off a 2023 PGA Championship victory, is currently tied for 28th place.
